The MediaWorks project involved the fit-out and occupation of new laboratory accommodation for Autolus Therapeutics, together with the carefully planned migration of its scientific operations from Forest House. The programme supported the client’s expanding research activities by creating additional specialist laboratory capacity while maintaining the continuity of time-critical experiments and business operations.

The building works comprised new and adapted laboratory environments, including specialist rooms, laboratory services, environmental controls, IT infrastructure and associated workplace accommodation. Technical interfaces included gas-alarm systems, building-management controls, rooftop plant, containment, ventilation and landlord approvals, requiring close coordination between the fit-out contractor, client teams, building management and specialist suppliers.

We were appointed to manage the laboratory migration, establishing the governance, programme, responsibilities and controls needed to relocate scientific equipment, samples, chemicals, consumables, IT systems and workplace materials. Detailed engagement with laboratory user groups identified business-critical experiments and established the sequence for equipment decontamination, specialist decommissioning, transport, recommissioning and operational release.

A key challenge was coordinating numerous original equipment manufacturers and specialist engineers while protecting valuable samples and maintaining research continuity. High-priority equipment was moved in a controlled sequence, supported by location plans, auditable decontamination records and coordinated IT commissioning. The migration was completed on schedule, with remaining commissioning and follow-on activities managed as planned Day 2 works, enabling Autolus to commence operations within its expanded MediaWorks laboratories.
