The Quadrangle Redevelopment

3pm was appointed by King’s College London (KCL) to provide Project Management and Employer’s Agent services for the redevelopment of the Quadrangle building at the Strand Campus. The 3,000m² building, located between the Grade I listed King’s Building and Somerset House, is of historic significance, requiring careful coordination with Westminster City Council.

The project involves two key phases. Package 2 focuses on significant shell and core alterations, including structural reinforcement, the addition of four two-storey lightwells, and the construction of the two-storey Oculus staircase. It also includes public realm upgrades to the campus surroundings. Package 3 covers the fit-out of the building to deliver flexible, future-proof learning and research spaces for a new engineering department, with a turn-key completion scheduled for September 2021.

Our role as lead consultant involved implementing key changes to the governance structure and introducing an optimised project execution strategy. The team led design and cost review exercises to ensure value for money while aligning with KCL’s goals. Throughout the project, we have built a trusted relationship with KCL Estates, securing two additional projects due to the successful delivery and client satisfaction on the Quadrangle redevelopment.
