Accelerating Growth in the Bioscience Sector with a Modular Laboratory
Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst
Modular Spark Building
We were appointed by Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst (SBC) to manage the delivery of a modular laboratory and office facility designed to support a unique global operating model. Established in 2012 on the GSK campus in Stevenage, SBC aims to cultivate a world-class cluster for therapeutics, focusing on cell and gene therapy to foster translation and commercialisation efforts. SBC accommodates 39 companies, including the Cell & Gene Therapy Catapult, having invested £650 million in start-ups and an additional £300 million in collaborating entities.
With increasing demand from existing and prospective occupiers for integrated, scalable, and GMP-compliant training facilities, the need for a timely solution became apparent. The ongoing portfolio developments were insufficient to meet this demand, prompting the proposal for a modular build project to the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), which subsequently provided funding. This initiative not only facilitated the creation of 54 new skilled jobs but also safeguarded approximately 125 existing positions. Through effective project management, we ensured that the modular facility was delivered efficiently, enabling SBC to enhance its capabilities and reinforce its commitment to advancing the bioscience sector in the region.
