The Manufacturing Centre

3pm were engaged by the Cell Therapy Catapult to provide project management and design services for a pioneering Cell Therapy Manufacturing facility at the Stevenage BioScience Catalyst Campus. The Cell Therapy Catapult, launched in 2012, aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and commercial-scale production, fuelling the growth of the UK’s cell therapy industry. In 2013, the UK Government committed £55 million to create this world-class facility to capitalise on the UK’s leading position in cell therapy, one of the Government’s eight great technologies.

The chosen location in Stevenage was selected for its strategic advantages, including excellent UK and international logistics, a skilled workforce, and cost-effectiveness. The 7,700m² facility accommodates up to 12 firms, allowing them to manufacture different therapies simultaneously while meeting stringent regulatory requirements. It serves as a global business hub, enabling organisations to reduce costs and risks associated with establishing specialised manufacturing facilities.

The centre provides unparalleled flexibility in operations, scale, and processes. Firms benefit from accelerated global expansion, consistent and reliable product transport within the EU, and access to the Cell Therapy Catapult’s world-leading product and process development services. This model ensures that companies maintain control over their proprietary knowledge and intellectual property while leveraging the facility’s resources.
