Fowlmere

Project Alchemy aims to transform a 5-acre industrial site into a state-of-the-art R&D facility, strategically located within South Cambridge’s life science cluster. With close proximity to Babraham Research Park and other major scientific hubs, the initiative targets the growing demand for world-class laboratories and flexible office spaces in the region. The project includes the refurbishment and repurposing of two existing buildings to minimise the embodied carbon footprint, contributing to its goal of achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating and a 30% Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).

Securing planning consent in November 2023, the 125,000 sq ft sustainable lab-led development will incorporate modern amenities to support both the scientific community and local residents. These include a cafe-deli, gym, co-working spaces, and conference facilities, with a shuttle bus service providing easy access to local transport hubs.

Our role is focused on bridging the gap in R&D infrastructure within Fowlmere, addressing the rising demand in the Cambridge southern science cluster. The long-term vision for Fowlmere is to create a thriving environment for science and technology, offering opportunities for growth while maintaining strong community engagement. By integrating sustainability and innovation, Project Alchemy contributes to the region’s evolving research ecosystem.
