Wellcome Trust
Sulston Shared Facilities
The vision
At the centre of the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus is the Sulston Shared Facility.
The project was to totally modernise, reorganise the space functions of this building and refresh the finishes into the next 25yrs. This was done by addressing thermal performance, solar control issues and providing a collaborative hub for scientists and visitors.
The project included Meeting Rooms which will were moved to a new mezzanine area capitalising on views up and down the campus. A DiNA Café which replaced the older facilities with more modern quicker services.
There is a communal room / classroom which is centrally located to facilitate public engagement and the Sanger Institute has a new striking entrance and reception area. To the rear of the scheme there is a new library with access to a hidden private garden.
Our Role
We were engaged as Executive Project Managers and Contract Administrators for this project. it was one of the first projects won as 3PM for the Wellcome Trust and have since become the sole PM’s for them.
Our remit was to provide the full range of project management duties from feasibility, design inception through to handover and operation.
Our role encompassed manging the enabling works on this live central site including removal of the façade and works to the existing roof, addition of new heavy plant to the roof with a mobile crane.
The logistics on this site were challenging and there needed to be a robust site logistic plan that we worked up prior to the Contractors involvement to give comfort to the Client on its practicability.
